A glass of wine is well-known for its relaxing effects after a stressful day, but it also offers other nurturing benefits. Wine’s antioxidants and gentle acids can pamper and leave your skin radiant. Facials are a favorite rejuvenation method for many, and using wine as a facial treatment is a cost-effective way to utilize the resources from your cellar.

Here are some ways to incorporate wine into your self-care routine:

Wine Facial Mask

Benefits:  Wine’s antioxidants, like resveratrol, can help fight free radicals, reduce fine lines, and rejuvenate skin.

How to Make:  Mix two tablespoons of red wine, one tablespoon of honey, and one tablespoon of plain yogurt. Apply to your face for 10–15 minutes, then rinse with warm water. The honey hydrates, while yogurt’s lactic acid helps gently exfoliate.

Wine Ice Cube Toner

How to Make:  Pour red wine into an ice cube tray and freeze. After cleansing your face, gently rub a wine ice cube over your skin, then rinse with cool water. This can be done once a week for a refreshing toner effect.  Wine contains natural acids that can help to tighten pores and provide a gentle exfoliation.

Wine and Green Tea Facial Mist

Benefits:  The antioxidants in wine and green tea help soothe and protect skin from environmental stressors.

How to Make:  Brew a cup of green tea and let it cool. Mix equal parts green tea and red wine in a spray bottle. Please keep it in the fridge and spritz your face whenever you need a refreshing pick-me-up. Shake well before each use.

Red Wine and Oatmeal Face Exfoliator

Benefits:  Oatmeal soothes and exfoliates, while wine’s natural acids provide gentle exfoliation.

How to Make:   Mix one tablespoon of oatmeal, two tablespoons of red wine, and a touch of water to form a paste. Gently massage onto the skin, focusing on areas that need exfoliation, then rinse off.

Wine-Infused Hair Rinse

Benefits: Wine’s acidity can help to clarify and add shine to hair, removing product buildup and leaving it soft.

How to Make:  After shampooing, pour ½ cup of red or white wine through your hair. Let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse thoroughly with cool water. Do this once a week for a natural shine boost.

Wine Lip Scrub

Benefits: Exfoliates lips, making them soft and smooth.

How to Make: Mix one teaspoon of red wine with sugar and honey. Rub it gently onto your lips in circular motions, then rinse off and apply a moisturizing balm.
